Happy Christmas 2024

Bowser at Christmas!

Today is Christmas Eve, and I still have a few last-minute bits of shopping to do, a couple presents to drop off and probably a glass of Bailey’s to end the day.

I’m looking forward to seeing people family on Christmas Day and some close friends on Boxing Day. I feel blessed to have a few days with the people I love the most.

And then there are the in between days - eating leftovers, wearing pyjamas and reflecting on the year that’s disappearing in our rear view mirror. One of my highlights was the publication of Because She Looked Away and the feedback it has received. As always, I am hugely appreciative of everybody who takes time to read my books, and especially to everyone who’s done so more than once!

Have you ever considered how well it works out that Christmas is closely followed so closely by New Year? We can overindulge at Christmas, have a few days to reconsider and then start over in January with a bit more restraint. No wonder that so many New Year’s resolutions

involve less eating, less drinking and less spending!

Mine is to write at least something every day. It’s a habit long promoted by authors but one I have never mastered. Perhaps there is a reason why so many of the metaphors I could use here include book related phrases like “turning over a new leaf” and “starting a new chapter”.

I would like to arrive at Christmas Eve next year looking back on my most productive writing year to date.

Whether lasting one day or one year, New Year’s resolutions are about looking forward and wanting to do something positive. I hope your Christmas will be special. And congratulations and good luck with any New Year’s resolution you make.

I hope your 2025 will be happy, healthy and successful… oh, and filled with crime fiction.
